Wide shot of San Francisco with the Golden Gate Bridge in the foreground

San Francisco, centerpiece of the Bay Area, is located on a small square of land at the tip of a peninsula between the San Francisco Bay and the Pacific coast. It is surrounded by water on three sides and is a compact city, with 47 square miles of sightseeing and incredible landscape ready for exploration. San Francisco is famous for its hills and there are more than fifty of them, which rise steeply to reveal stunning views of the city with its Victorian architecture, the Bay and beyond.

Bring your walking shoes and when your feet tire, hop on one of the cable cars that have been running up and down the city hills since 1873. Or head to one of the many beaches or parks to rest your weary legs and take in a view of the Golden Gate Bridge, the most visited and photographed bridge in the world. From this vantage point, the view of San Francisco gets no better.

San Franciscans pride themselves on being welcoming, tolerant, cultured, and progressive and with over 39% of them born overseas, the cities international character is hard to miss. No matter which neighborhood you are exploring, you will find it culturally rich and able to cater to all of your needs. The San Francisco Chinatown is certainly worth a visit, being the oldest Chinatown in North America. Then head to Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay, accessible by boat and one of the most infamous prisons in the country, once housing notorious criminals. Fisherman's Wharf is the home base of the San Francisco fishing fleet and it is here you can enjoy street performers, the Aquarium of the Bay, with its focus on local aquatic animals and over fifty shark species, shopping and the best Dungeness crab and clam chowder you have ever tasted. San Francisco is adored by its inhabitants and one of the most visited cities in the world. After your own visit, you too, will appreciate its attraction.
